Next Generation

Who are we?

For years, 11-16 year olds have been volunteering in Bournemouth on the TEAM and Young Citizens projects. This year, the two projects came together under one new programme called Next Generation.

Over the following years, young people from both TEAM and Young Citizens will be working together to strengthen their projects and to give more young people from disadvantaged backgrounds access to exciting and inspirational volunteering projects.

Next Generation aims to get 1,500 11-16 year olds volunteering over the next 5 years. We also aim to improve the way in which 30 Bournemouth organisations work with young people.

Next Generation targets West Howe, Boscombe, Wallisdown & Bournemouth Town Centre.

Next Generation is managed by Bournemouth YMCA and is primarily funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

NextGen Steering Group Get Set!

9 young people from across TEAM and Young Citizens have been invited to steer Next Generation through its first year. The young people started their planning on a June training residential where they helped to shape a vision for Next Generation.

Cassie, Oscar, Jess, Chariece, Sofia, Jamie & Iona went to Fairthorne Manor and enjoyed 2 jam-packed days of team-building activities and planning games.  They rolled in the mud on the assault course and they marched blindfolded through the woods.

By the end of the trip, the new team had a good understanding and excitement for their year ahead.  They agreed a timeline of objectives and are ready to get to work to help to shape Next Generation for young people.

The steering group will meet monthly for the duration of the year to achieve their goals and will then recruit the next steering group to handover to next year.
