Team

TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) are a multi-cultural peer support and youth action group who meet to tackle the issues facing young people from black and ethnic minority groups living in Bournemouth.  They are a group of young people aged from 11 - 15 and TEAM+  for young people aged 16-25.  They meet every week looking at supporting each other and also campaigning around issues to do with bullying and racism.  They organise conferences and events for other young people as well as taking part in activities together such as football tournaments, music workshops, art exhibitions and weekend residentials.

TEAM Conference 2010 PDF Print E-mail

A group of young people from ethnically diverse backgrounds put their own spin on the curriculum earlier this month as they held their own youth-led conference for Bournemouth pupils.  Teachers were pushed aside for the day as the young campaigners ran workshops for up to 70 attendees from schools across the town.
The event, held at Winton YMCA aimed to stamp out the racist attitudes that many young people are being raised with and the group of young people from TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) know all too well what terrible impacts racism and bullying can have on young people.
The special guest of the conference was Major Phil Ashby - ex-Royal Marine - who's story is currently being adapted for a screenplay.  Major Ashby talked to the young audience about his experiences serving in Sierra Leone where he was tasked with disarming rebel soldiers - many of whom were youngsters themselves.
There was also a dance and a talk on Rosa Parks by 2 young members of TEAM.  Rosa Parks was the African-American woman who sparked a revolution when she refused to stand on a bus to allow a white person to take her seat.
The TEAM Conference was a great success and the young people are looking forward to planning another one - bigger and better - in 2 years time.
