FilmJunkies Celebrate Award Success
Echo Chief, Odeon Cinema & Harry Potter's Soundman judge Bournemouth's first youth film festival Echo Chief, Neal Butterworth, was among an A-list judging panel last Summer which celebrated the talents of Bournemouth's new Spielbergs. Mr Butterworth was joined by Odeon Director, Spencer Clark, and Harry Potter Soundman, Jon Hardy, to judge the 12 short film entries which were shown in June at Bournemouth's Odeon Cinema. The festival, organised by young people, was the first of an annual event to showcase the directorial achievements of Bournemouth's youth. The selection of films featured a wide variety of subjects and genres. One of the highlights was 'Freddie' - a documentary about an 87-year-old man from Bournemouth who displays his impressive skills with a zimmer-frame and his insightful thoughts on what it's like to grow old alone. ![]() Another highlight was 'The Daemon Drink' - a short which won Best Film at London's recent MTV Boom Awards in Regent Street. One Voice 2009 was the first film festival locally to celebrate solely films of the under 25s but Project Worker Angela Reece thinks it's the start of more to come, "Young people have been asking for this for a long time. The quality of the films in this premiere show that Bournemouth's youth have got a lot of positive things to say and it's great that they want to use media technology to creatively convey their thoughts."
