FilmJunkies is an award winning project that makes films about issues affecting young people.

They meet every Wednesday 5.30-7.30pm at V.I.B.E..  You don't need to have any experience to join the group, just enthusiasm!

Recent Films:

Life's A Beach which won the MTV BOOM award for Best Community Story. 

The Daemon Drink which won the MTV BOOM award for Best Film and The Prince's Trust Award for Best Community Impact.

Climate Change which is currently being used by the British Red Cross in schools.

Add Kolor was a documentary about graffiti shown at a recent conference.

Their current film, Phobias, is due to be finished in the Summer.....

 

 FilmJunkies Celebrate Award Success

FilmJunkies were rewarded for their good work at the Prince's Trust Celebrate Success Awards.  The group who had struggled with personal issues including low confidence and unemployment turned their problems into something positive.

They met with Vita Nova, a local charity working with recovering alcoholics and spoke to clients about how alcoholism has affected their lives.  What resulted was a play put on by the group promoting sensible drinking.  This was funded by a community cash award from the Prince's Trust.

The play named Daemon Drink was so popular that the volunteers adapted it for a DVD, distributing it to local shools and youth groups.  The film has also won Best Film at the MTV BOOM's Awards.  Following their success they became an official group calling themselves Film Junkies who have a number of short films to their name.  One of the volunteers, Tash hopes volunteering will help provide a platform for a future career.  "I've really got into directing and writing my own stuff and I was thinking of getting a portfolio together," says Tash.  "You wouldn't believe how much confidence it gives you.  So many people have changed since I first met them and if volunteering can work for them it can work for anyone."

 

 

 

 

Echo Chief, Odeon Cinema & Harry Potter's Soundman judge Bournemouth's first youth film festival

Echo Chief, Neal Butterworth, was among an A-list judging panel last Summer which celebrated the talents of Bournemouth's new Spielbergs.  Mr Butterworth was joined by Odeon Director, Spencer Clark, and Harry Potter Soundman, Jon Hardy, to judge the 12 short film entries which were shown in June at Bournemouth's Odeon Cinema.
The festival, organised by young people, was the first of an annual event to showcase the directorial achievements of Bournemouth's youth.  The selection of films featured a wide variety of subjects and genres.  One of the highlights was 'Freddie' - a documentary about an 87-year-old man from Bournemouth who displays his impressive skills with a zimmer-frame and his insightful thoughts on what it's like to grow old alone.
Another highlight was 'The Daemon Drink' - a short which won Best Film at London's recent MTV Boom Awards in Regent Street.
One Voice 2009 was the first film festival locally to celebrate solely films of the under 25s but Project Worker Angela Reece thinks it's the start of more to come, "Young people have been asking for this for a long time.  The quality of the films in this premiere show that Bournemouth's youth have got a lot of positive things to say and it's great that they want to use media technology to creatively convey their thoughts."
