I have been doing volunteering for vinvolved, which I help with such things as Event Organizing, Climate change,   FilmJunkies that I do on Mon and Wed. Since being at vinvolved I have learned much about filmmaking and how different issues affect young people in the community in Bournemouth.   In  FilmJunkies I have learnt how to script- write and edit films by using software such as Final cut express and comic life which I learnt though FilmJunkies at Bournemouth vinvolved.Other things we have organized are such events as “Resilience” – (Arts in Action) where a few of us did a 3 day event in Bournemouth Gardens to show people from different ages how Being Resilient can help the community and young people within the community.   This was done though art.  We showed the pubic our ideas and comments though art.

Also I have been working on other projects such as the emergency Sign language.  I did a 30 minute presentation using PowerPoint to show a big group of Red Cross teams how simple Sign language in an emergency can help if there is a person who is deaf.

TEAM and TEAM+ get wet and muddy on their 2009 residential!
TEAM and TEAM+ fell in the lakes, rolled in the mud, bounced on a giant pillow
and walked a tight rope on the 2009 TEAM Residential last week.  A record-breaking
20 young volunteers took a break from their anti-racism campaigning to go and have some fun
at Fairthorne Manor........................
Activities included raft-building and an assault course.  Youngsters as young as 11 teamed up with volunteers
in their mid-twenties to complete the tasks and strengthen friendships.
Highlights were David's breakdancing and Phil falling head first on the climbing frame.......
 - missing the ground by inches!
Here is the full list of award winners from the trip:
Best Teamplayer:  Milly
Rising Star:  Oscar
Most Memorable Moment:  David
Most Effort:  Fotis
Best Newcomer:  Tia
Hidden Gem:  Megin

Also awarded were Zak, David and Ellie for their amazing youth-led presentations.  Zak led a workshop on the Festival of Flight (to be exhibited at the Bournemouth Air Festival), David led a presentation on Emergency Sign Language and Ellie (one of the youngest) did a talk with Tia to the rest of the group about Rosie Parks - the black lady who was asked to stand on a bus in America so a white person could sit down.

All in all, the 2009 Residential was a big success and everyone is already looking forward to the next one - but lots of hard campaigning to do before the next one guys!

As an artist I first started volunteering for vinvolved and TEAM+ when I found out they were organising an art exhibition with The British Red Cross with the theme of Resilience against vulnerability.

Everyone was really friendly and we had a lot of fun as well as working together to achieve a goal. The exhibition ended up being a great success. There were also many opportunities to get involved in a variety of other projects. There is always something to interest everyone going on, from politics to music. There are fantastic opportunities to gain new skills to put on your CV and even qualifications you can gain, if you want to. I now volunteer as part of the award winning film club, where we get the opportunity to make films and exhibit them. Two of my films are being shown to hundreds of people at the Odeon Cinema as part of the One Voice Film Festival, which we organised. I am also volunteering in TEAM+, which aims to tackle bullying and racism.  Volunteering has allowed me to expand my creativity, gain new skills for life and make friends. I thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

I first got involved with V and Team through the ‘Arts in Action’ exhibition, and after that the opportunities just kept coming! I’ve always been interested in volunteering, and outside of V I am also a volunteer for the British Red Cross, Amnesty International, Greenpeace and Dorset Agenda 21.

Team has been a great chance to meet really interesting people and to get involved in some fantastic projects. My involvement with Team has definitely improved my confidence. I love seeing the events we organise come together, and showing the wider community the work that young volunteers

are doing locally. The best thing about Team is meeting other young people that are so motivated to get involved and improve race relations in the Bournemouth area. There are so many different projects at V, and the staff are always so helpful in suggesting things to get involved with. I really enjoy volunteering and I’d recommend it to anyone. For young people I think V is a great way to get into volunteering for the first time, there’s something for everyone, so much support, and always an opportunity to start up something new!
